Re-branded “Active On-Demand” to focus on five services.

Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. said today it has integrated its air freight and logistics units into its time-definite delivery operation and will go to market under the new name of “Active On-Demand.”

The new business is comprised of logistics provider Rich Logistics, air freight unit USA Jet, and time-definite provider Active Aero Group. The three units have combined annual revenue of about $760 million, Roadrunner said. They will remain separate legal entities, but will operate under one management team, the Cudahy, Wis.-based company said. Roadrunner generates most of its revenue from less-than-truckload (LTL) and truckload operations.

Tom Stenglein, Active Aero’s president, and Shannon Everett, Rich’s chief operating officer, will assume expanded leadership roles at the new operation, Roadrunner said.

The new entity will focus on five areas: scheduled truckload, ground expedited, air charter, hand carry, and international air freight, Roadrunner said.

The announcement is Roadrunner’s latest move to consolidate its operating structure after 34 acquisitions from 2005 to 2015, and the difficult integrations that often followed, spawned a sprawling and inefficient organization. At one time, Roadrunner had 20 operating units. It has since re-organized into six operating groups.
